Senior Accountant Description

Our client, a well-respected active-adult community in Surprise, AZ, is seeking a Senior Accountant to become a key contributor within their collaborative, people-focused team. You’ll oversee a small but mighty accounting team of three, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and driving process improvements — while fostering trust, approachability, and open communication across departments. This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic and hands-on accounting professional to optimize systems, refine workflows, and deliver transparency for leadership and community stakeholders.

Senior Accountant Responsibilities

•    Oversee all accounting functions, including GL, AP/AR, purchasing, fixed assets, projects, funds, and reconciliations
•    Prepare and review monthly financials per GAAP and HOA requirements
•    Lead, train, and mentor a three-person accounting team to drive accountability and improvement
•    Develop and document standardized procedures and internal controls
•    Implement and enhance financial systems for greater efficiency and accuracy
•    Deliver variance analysis, KPIs, and actionable insights for management
•    Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and expense monitoring
•    Support audits and ensure regulatory compliance
•    Partner with IT and leadership on system upgrades and integration

Senior Accountant Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
•    4+ years of progressive accounting experience required 
•    Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting required
•    Advanced proficiency (Pivot Tables, MACROS, VLOOKUP’s, etc.) in Microsoft Excel required
