Senior Safety Engineer (energetics or explosives safety exp. req.) Description
Our client is searching for a Senior Safety Engineer to join their innovative, diverse team in the United States. They offer custom energetic solutions for a variety of verticals including military, aerospace, oil & gas, and mining. In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading the technical planning, execution, and upkeep of comprehensive safety programs, applying expertise in energetic materials and explosives to design practical solutions that reduce operational risk. This position acts as a key safety resource for department leadership, process engineers, and production teams, ensuring protective measures are embedded throughout all stages of manufacturing. The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial safety, excels at fostering cross-department collaboration, and provides guidance and training to personnel while implementing engineering controls to sustain a secure and high-risk work environment. This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys working in smaller engineering teams, where contributions have a direct impact and are visible across the organization.
Senior Safety Engineer (energetics or explosives safety exp. req.) Responsibilities
• Apply engineering principles to the handling, processing, and storage of energetic materials
• Ensure strict adherence to Process Safety Management (PSM) standards
• Manage the site's MOC program and ensure safety is engineered into process modifications
• Develop and deliver safety and PSM training programs to ensure workforce competencies
• Conduct technical EH&S audits and support continuous improvement of safety systems
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, ATF, DHS, and DoD technical standards
• Administer a safety program that integrates engineering controls with behavioral safety
• Serve as an on-the-floor leader who builds and reinforces the organization’s safety culture
• Perform hazard analyses and evaluate potential risks to recommend mitigation strategies
• Assist with accident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
• Collaborate to evaluate task design, equipment safety, and mitigation strategies
Senior Safety Engineer (energetics or explosives safety exp. req.) Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Energetics or explosives industry experience required
• Minimum 5 years of safety engineering experience required
• Proven expertise applying OSHA regulations to safely manage hazardous materials
