Controls Engineer (PLC programming exp. req.) Description

Our client, an industrial equipment manufacturer, is looking for a Controls Engineer to join their team (80 company-wide; 4 Controls Engineers) in Knoxville, TN. If you’re looking for a smaller team and less of the corporate feel that comes with larger organizations, this could be a great match. This role focuses on designing, programming, debugging, and supporting automated systems, with a mix of controls development, electrical hardware design, and programming. They’re growing the team and are open to different experience levels, whether you’re earlier in your career or bring more hands-on experience. The key is finding someone who has at least some exposure to overall controls system design, including how the hardware, software, and communication all come together. You don’t need to have owned full system design yet but should understand how the pieces fit and be eager to expand your skillset. This won’t be the right fit for someone coming strictly from a maintenance PLC technician background. However, if you have a strong foundation in controls, along with PLC programming and CAD experience, this could be a great match. They place a strong emphasis on work/life balance and recently developed a schedule that allowed a newer engineer to have half days most Fridays. This is a great opportunity to join an engineering-focused company with a strong culture, travel incentives, and profit-sharing.
