Payroll Specialist (payroll processing exp. req.) Description
Our client is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join their team near Grand Rapids, MI. This position is 100% onsite. Beyond the role itself, you'll join a close-knit HR team that values open communication, collaboration, and work-life balance, including shorter workdays and half-day Fridays for most of the year. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety in their day and likes having a steady stream of work. While payroll will be the primary focus of the role (about 65%), you'll also support benefits administration and general HR initiatives. If you're looking to expand your HR knowledge while continuing to build on your payroll expertise, this could be an excellent fit. Their Director of Human Resources is happy to train the benefits and HR aspects of the role, but to be successful, you'll need at least two years of payroll processing experience. Since you'll support payroll across multiple companies, strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy are essential.
Payroll Specialist (payroll processing exp. req.) Responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end weekly payroll process across for a multi-state, multi-company workforce
• Audit timecards, payroll data, file imports, and payroll reports to ensure accuracy
• Maintain payroll records, including wages, deductions, PTO, and garnishments
• Resolve payroll issues and respond to employee payroll inquiries
• Ensure compliance with payroll laws and company policies
• Support benefits administration, including enrollments and life event changes
• Administer employee leave programs, including FMLA, ADA, and disability
• Maintain employee records and support onboarding and HR administration
• Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, audits, and year-end documentation
• Partner with the HR team to support day-to-day HR initiatives and employee needs

• Minimum 2 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience required
• Willingness to learn benefits administration and support HR initiatives required
• Able to work onsite each day required
