Our client, a Baltimore-based nonprofit, is seeking an Accountant to join their growing team. The role offers hybrid flexibility following onboarding (typically, 3-6 months). With nearly 20 years of community impact and recent growth driven by increased grant funding, the organization is expanding its operations. To support this growth and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting, they have recently partnered with a CPA firm. In this role, you’ll act as the in-house Accountant, handling day-to-day accounting and working closely with the CPA firm. Whether you’ve supported the finances of a 501(c)(3) organization or have experience with grant reporting in a government setting, this could be a great fit for someone who cares about their community and enjoys bringing structure and clarity to an organization’s financial processes.
[HYBRID] Nonprofit Accountant (nonprofit accounting or grant accounting exp. req.) Responsibilities
• Support daily accounting operations and collaborate with the CPA firm
• Email or upload vendor invoices to BILL.com inbox
• Submit payment request forms with coding information
• Ensure that cardholders submit credit card expense reports with coding information
• Deposit cash and checks received into the proper bank account
• Maintain cash receipt logs with proper coding information for all deposits
• Submit grant invoices and payment requests to funders
• Follow up on collections when needed
• Process grants including filing, creating proposals, and preparing budgets
• Identify the grant, grant period, reporting period, and add to master grant listing
• Process bi-weekly payroll and ensure timely payroll tax remittances via ADP
• Submit bi-weekly 403(b) contributions and maintain annual Form 5500 filings
• Review monthly financials with CPA firm to agree on the budget variance explanation
[HYBRID] Nonprofit Accountant (nonprofit accounting or grant accounting exp. req.) Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Nonprofit or grant accounting experience required
• Full-cycle accounting experience, including budgeting and forecasting required
• Strong Excel skills required
Important Note: This role offers flexibility to work from home after training. Onboarding typically lasts 3-6 months. Once you’re up to speed, you’ll have the option to work remotely 1-2 days per week.
