Controls Engineer (3+ yrs programming exp. req.) Description
Our client in the packaging machinery industry is looking for a Controls Engineer to join their team near Pikesville, MD. In this role, you'll play a key role in designing and developing control systems (primarily using Rockwell) for customized dispensing and packaging machinery used across pharmaceutical, biotech, and consumer goods sectors. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of hands-on experience with PLCs, HMI interfaces, motion control, and 2D CAD, as well as a passion for working through complex, one-of-a-kind engineering challenges. To thrive in this role, you should be comfortable navigating ambiguity, working closely with cross-functional teams and customers, and diving into both design and troubleshooting phases of projects. Controls Engineer (3+ yrs programming exp. req.) Responsibilities
• Design control systems with motion control and electromechanical components
• Create schematics, panel layouts, flowcharts, and specification sheets
• Program PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems
• Develop machine concepts, technical drawings and cost estimates
• Source components and apply engineering standards to designs and standard parts
• Collaborate with internal teams and customers from concept to delivery
• Support troubleshooting, debugging and commissioning activities
• Lead design reviews and contribute to sharing knowledge with team
• Manage multiple projects in various lifecycle stages
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards
Controls Engineer (3+ yrs programming exp. req.) Qualifications
• 3+ years of electrical controls engineering experience required
• PLC, HMI and motion control programming experience required
• Experience with PLC ladder logic, motion control & servo systems required
• Proficiency with 2D CAD drawings required
