Tooling Designer (Precision Machining exp. req.) Description
Our client, an established precision machining company in southern Minnesota, is seeking a detail-oriented Tooling Designer to join their team. This role is ideal for an engineer with hands-on experience in machining and process optimization who thrives in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment. You'll play a key role in developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes to meet production goals while supporting ISO 9001 quality standards. This is a highly collaborative position, interfacing with engineering, quality control, estimating, and operations teams. Tooling Designer (Precision Machining exp. req.) Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and refine manufacturing processes
• Analyze production workflows, space utilization, and equipment layout
• Collaborate with QC to address non-conformance issues
• Interpret and process customer drawings, CAD files, and GD&T specifications
• Assist with job estimating and quoting by evaluating time, tooling, and materials
• Lead the introduction of new jobs, engineering change orders, and engineering documentation
• Pre-plan tooling and fixtures for upcoming jobs
• Support ISO 9001 quality initiatives
• Participate in the selection and specification of materials, tools, and equipment
• Communicate clearly with team members and departments to maintain project alignment
Tooling Designer (Precision Machining exp. req.) Qualifications
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in machine or manufacturing engineering required
• Experienced in designing tooling and fixtures for precision machining required
• Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) required
• Skilled in interpreting GD&T, CAD models, and technical drawings required
