Construction / Project Accountant (WIP, Job Costing & GL exp. req.) Description

Our client, a rapidly growing contractor in the Atlanta area, is looking for a Staff Accountant to join their team in Marietta, GA. Reporting to the CEO, this is a pivotal project-focused, financial analysis-driven accounting role; you will support job cost tracking, WIP reporting and analysis, and month-end close activities. You’ll work closely with department managers and leadership to help scale accounting operations and bring financial clarity to projects. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong initiative and ownership mindset, with the ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies proactively. This is a growth-focused opportunity with potential to evolve into a leadership position over time. 

Construction / Project Accountant (WIP, Job Costing & GL exp. req.) Responsibilities

•    Reconcile accounts, vendor statements, and intercompany transactions
•    Track and analyze job costs weekly; support monthly WIP reporting and job profitability analysis
•    Own WIP journal entries, including over/under billing analysis and associated accruals
•    Tie job cost data to G/L accounts during month-end close; ensure financial accuracy
•    Prepare monthly margin analysis; assist in reviewing variances and adjusting forecasts
•    Collaborate with PMs on job close-outs, change orders, and budget-to-actual tracking
•    Maintain accounting records for bonding, insurance, and audits
•    Prepare cash flow forecasts and budget analyses and financial statement preparation
•    Help improve accounting controls and systems as company scales

Construction / Project Accountant (WIP, Job Costing & GL exp. req.) Qualifications

•    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required
•    3+ years of construction accounting experience required
•    Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and monthly close-out responsibilities required
•    Experience preparing WIP journal entries and reconciling job costs to the G/L required
•    Proficiency with accounting and construction software required
