Controls Programming Manager (PLC programming & software development) Description
Our client, an industrial manufacturer, is looking for a Controls Programming Manager to join their engineering team (16; 70 company-wide) outside of Racine, WI. They have evolved over the last few years from being just a hardware company to becoming a more software-driven manufacturer. Given this expansion, they have created this leadership position to add more infrastructure within their Programming Team (5). You will be responsible for leading the planning and delivery of their embedded hardware and software projects across their electro-hydraulic equipment. Their applications are used within a recession-proof industry and because they’ve prioritized automation over the last two years, they have doubled their results. Controls Programming Manager (PLC programming & software development) Responsibilities
• Lead the development of embedded software, vision systems, and related hardware
• Oversee Programming Team (5) and the delivery of their embedded systems projects
• Establish clear performance goals, mentor engineering team, and provide feedback
• Manage project timelines, scope, resource planning, and change management
• Partner with mechanical and electrical teams to ensure seamless system performance
• Create and implement best practices for embedded software development
• Develop and enforce a structured testing and release strategy
• Define test cases, performance benchmarks, and failure criteria for validation processes
• Implement a revision control system for software releases to support field reliability
• Recommend technologies that enhance product safety and automation
• Encourage a culture of responsibility, innovation, and continuous improvement
Controls Programming Manager (PLC programming & software development) Qualifications
• 10 years of controls engineering experience required
• Experienced overseeing the project delivery of software development projects required
• PLC and HMI programming experience required
• Hands-on coding experience required
• People management experience required
