Accounting Specialist (Nonprofit Community Services) Description

Our client, a nonprofit community services organization in Chicago, IL, is looking for an Accounting Specialist to add to their team. You will be responsible for critical functions related to vouchers and invoices for contracts the agency has with government agencies, helping to ensure all subcontracted partners are in full compliance with contractual fiscal requirements and standards. Our client is looking for an individual with a degree in Accounting/Finance and some experience working with nonprofit organizations (can be internship or volunteer work). To be successful in this role, you should have strong Excel skills and an aptitude for translating financial concepts to colleagues who do not necessarily have a finance background. Accounting Specialist (Nonprofit Community Services) Responsibilities

● Organize backup documentation for all vouchers
● Review vouchers/invoices submitted by partner sites for accuracy and process check requests
● Prepare and upload monthly vouchers for reimbursement (via iSupplier and other platforms)
● Develop and distribute monthly summary reports of the contract vouchers
● Attend all partner meetings to provide information on changing fiscal requirements
● Assist partner sites in developing budgets and invoicing for allowable costs
● Train partner site staff involved in grants and contracts as needed
● Assist with preparation of budgets and budget revisions for all contracts
● Provide technical assistance with regard to compliance-related documentation
● Analyze partner network expense reports and submit to program staff monthly
● Assist in preparation of documentation for all audits

Accounting Specialist (Nonprofit Community Services) Qualifications

● Bachelor’s Degree required (Accounting or Finance fields of study)
● 1+ years of experience with accounting functions required (can be internship or volunteer work)
● Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations required
● Strong Excel skills required
